A teacher at Glenlola Collegiate, a girls' grammar school in
County Down, Northern Ireland, explains how their Comenius
project is using science and citizenship to focus on alternative
energy sources in Europe.

Students at Hope High have been working with their European
counterparts on a project about Citizenship and Social Inclusion.

Fiona Swanson, the school's Head of International Education,
describes how students at this language college in Cambridge have
learnt to celebrate diversity by collaborating on a global
citizenship project which has explored issues such as asylum
seekers, refugees, racism and human rights. This case study offers

Mr Williams, head teacher at Old Sodbury primary school, talks
through a school project focused on citizenship and community.
He explains how the partners got round communication difficulties
(neither of the partner schools is online), and tells how the
children who visited Romania will remember it for the rest of their
lives.

Pond Park Primary's principal and teachers used
Comenius 2.2 professional development courses to learn about the
Reggio Emilia Schools of Northern Italy, which have a creative
and child-centred approach to schooling. Pond Park has also done a
school project - find out how teddy bears helped develop the
children's knowledge of different countries, including
travel, climate and languages.

'Many in our school can't experience the world, therefore we have
to bring the world to them,' says Ann Southren, Deputy Headteacher
of Durham Trinity School, a special school. Through
its Comenius project focused on the environment, the school
has strengthened links with the local community, increased the
dynamism of the curriculum and staff have learnt about new
educational methods.

Ysgol y Dderi is a rural community primary school located in
the Teifi valley half way between Tregaron and the old University
town of Lampeter in West Wales. But that's just our location
on a map - creatively-speaking we're at the heart of Europe and
that's because of a Comenius1 project called 'Roots and Wings'
which began in 1997!

European Citizenship - UK,
Poland and Germany
Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School, a specialist technology
college, has been deemed Outstanding by Ofsted since becoming
involved in Comenius. Carol Rushton, assistant head teacher and the
Comenius project co-ordinator describes the experience of a joint
curriculum project, which launched with the Germand and UK schools
celebrating Poland's entry into the EU. Carol asked some of the
children who had been to Poland to comment on their experiences.
