A globally recognised Award
The ISA is a scheme
with truly international appeal, as our overseas school
partners know.
This is in line with the international strategy (DfES 2004)
which highlights 'as other countries show interest, we will work
with them to develop the ISA into a truly international
award'.
Jordan, Egypt, Pakistan and Cyprus have also signed up to
use the ISA scheme, with Nepal and Japan on board for
2009.
The ISA is an accreditation
scheme run by the British Council and supported by
the Department for Education in the UK. There is no
fee and the ISA is open to all schools (nursery to sixth
form). The scheme recognises good practice in adding an
international dimension to the school curriculum.
The ISA in India
In the year 2003 The British Council
India introduced the International School Award in India as a pilot
project. Through the pilot project it developed an award scheme to
recognise the work of Indian schools with international links that
include the UK. The scheme is based on the UK model with
appropriate modifications. India was the first overseas country to
pilot the International School Award.

The ISA in Sri
Lanka
The British Council in Sri Lanka
introduced a pilot of the scheme in 2005 with the aim of
recognising the international work done in schools as well as the
collaborative projects schools in the UK and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka
is the second country outside of UK to introduce this accreditation
scheme. British Council has always placed the international
dimensions of teaching and learning at the heart of its work since
1940 when it opened the first office in Colombo.
