Science and
environment projects
Science is a
fantastic excuse for online international
collaboration!
Science Across the World
The imaginative online projects from Science Across the World
foster the essential scientific concepts of comparables, variation
and data analysis.Students submit their own observations and
measurements and use the online toolkit to compare these with
schools' data from around the world.
There is a subscription to register to use
these projects, but it is nominal (currently FREE until further
notice). The age ranges are just a guide.
Environment Online
ENO is an award-winning Finnish site focusing
on local environments and a global context. There are about
200 schools participating in the year-long programme of activities.
ENO uses chat and other e-learning tools in creative ways.
Students can participate in local learning events such as tree
planting, measuring climate etc, based around environmental
themes. Information is gathered from local communities and
shared globally on the ENO website in chats, discussion forums and
resource archives. Free Ages
8-14.
Measuring climate change
A fascinating site where your class plays a
part in predicting climate for the rest of this century. It is
supported by the Nuffield Foundation and offers loads of related
classroom resources. Free Ages
11-18
Nature Detectives
A great way to introduce outdoor education and
ideal for coming up with joint activities with a partner school.
Wildlife resources and nature club for primary and secondary
schools plus year round outdoor projects and school garden
tips.
Science Projects (US
site)
These science projects give international
involvement because schools contribute that data to build up the
picture, but the project administrator is centralised so you don't
need to organise the relationship with partner schools - just
participate as directed and do the activities needed. Projects
range from testing the quality of your local water sources to
temperature, dominant genetic traits and pond life. As the site is
American, curriculum linking may be less
straightforward. All ages.
