 International activities

An international activity is a class-based activity, which can last for any duration, and should bring an international dimension to teaching and learning.

When you apply for Full ISA, the activities in your action plan must include:

  1. Cross curricular activity
  2. Curriculum-based activity
  3. Collaborative work with partner schools
  4. Majority of curricular subjects involved
  5. Majority of pupils involved
  6. Year round activity

In order to get an idea of the kind of activities you can include in your ISA application, have a look at some of the best international activities that other schools have submitted in the past.

Questions about activities

Activities could be led by a particular class or year group - some effort should be made to share and involve the rest of the school, or other departments, perhaps just at the end of the activity or in one aspect.

Some of your international activities should be joint, collaborative activities with a partner school, but others can relate to your local community, to local schools or to whole school awareness raising.

Work together to look at an international aspect of the UK, such as immigration or diverse cultures. Work together to build up a portrait of Britain that might be shown to an international partner. For more ideas see the Community Cohesion Toolkit on this site.

Only where the visit gives rise to a planned joint project or gives rise to curriculum development at your school.
